Theme 1 “Language and Cognition: Corpus, Behaviour and Education” Coordinators: […]
Coordinators: Sylvie HANOTE (PR, FORELL) and Manuel GIMENES (MCF, CERCA)
The main purpose of this area of research is the study of language and human behaviour through the creation and analysis of a corpus integrating pedagogical and educational aims. Research is organized around the analysis of language (written and oral), both on the aspects of the production and the reception with a special look at the connections between these different aspects: transition from oral to writing, links between perception and production. This research focuses on three complementary programmes:
- The “Writing” programme (Coordinator: Eric LAMBERT, MCF, CERCA) focuses on the conditions related to the mastering of written production in children and adults during major transition periods: 1) from pre-school to primary school, 2) from primary school to secondary school, 3) from school to the professional world. These transitions can be the causes of academic failure because of the difficulty to succeed in stepping from an education system to another or because of difficulties in professional integration. These failures and difficulties may also come from a lower level of mastery of written production. This is why the programme focuses on three projects: a/ Evolution of cognitive processes in written production during learning, b/ Learn to write texts: linguistic analysis and psycholinguistics, c/ School Transitions, professional transitions and differentiated writing practices.
- The “Speech” programme (Coordinator: Sylvie HANOTE, PR, FORELL) focuses on oral speech through the analysis of old and current data, at different levels of analysis: phonetic, phonological and morphophonological; semantic and syntactic levels; and the level of discourse. It uses linguistic knowledge and technological tools to develop three projects: 1) a diachronic project, dealing with the study of language evolution over time; 2) a synchronic component on sound analysis of oral data (especially around the corpus ‘Speech’); 3) the third project deals with the level of discourse (‘rhetoric and prosody’ project) to account for its structure, organisation and of the operation markers and linguistic units in the construction of the meaning.
- The “Educational tools and new digital technologies” programme (Coordinators: Freiderikos VALETOPOULOS, PR, FORELL, and Jacques BOUCHAND, MCF, TECHNE) is an application programme, focusing on the development of teaching tools and recommendations. This third programme is based on the fundamental research results of the two other lines of research (written and oral) to offer help with learning, especially to advanced learners, in connection with the French Foreign Language Centre, the School of Teaching and Education, the University of Poitiers, and the IDEFI Project (PARE) for success in academic studies.
